Gw Generosity
I just had a really strange GW moment I'd like to share with you guys..
I met a seller of warrior weaponry a while back. I was looking for a nice sword to use on my warrior and fell in love with the elemental sword design. Unfortunatly I am not in the possesion of an incredible amount of ecto's, shards or money so A elemental was quite clearly out of my reach..
While spamming the cities of GW this person whispers me saying she has a selection of nice warrior weapons for sale.
She took me outside of town and I was stunned by the sight of her Elemental sword.. It looked even better then any pics I had seen on the internet. After looking trough her fine selections of weaponry (containing a wide variety of great looking skins and stats) I came to the conclusion that I could use a nice simple sword and bought a high reqqed wingblade sword (since that skin is still smashing imo for a measly 2k (even though it had a perfect furious haft, +26 health and req 12)
After the transaction, I asked the warrior If I could see his elemental sword in the trade window. She showed me without hesitation and I found that it was a perfect req 9 one.. I was stunned beyond believe.. I've seen these things go for 100+100 ectos (and more) in the high end forum. well, after talking about chest runs, soloing missions and general gameplay changes we bowed to eachother and traveled in our own seperate directions. The warrior whispered me that if she found a high reqqed crappy elemental sword, she would let me know, and I would get the first chance in buying it from her. (but that would still cost more then 100k, so I had a lot of saving up to do )
This morning, it was early, round 10 o clock, this warrior was the only on in my friends list that was online I started a conversation, asking how she has been
She asked me to meet her in Droknar's Forge, the reasons were unclear to me at the time.. I decided that a friend in need of help is always worth visiting, so I took the first boat to Lion's Arch, and traveled to Droks in a heartbeat.
After meeting up with my friend, We stepped outside once more and she openend the trade window.. The rest is viewable in the picture I included in this post..
She gave me her perfect Elemental sword just cause she couldn't play properly (Internet lag) free of charge! I was shocked!!
After talking for a while, she said she had to go and logged out, I was still stunned.. standing in Talos Chute, with a brand new sword in my hand, the most expensive one I had ever owned..
People can complain all they want about noobs, scammers and people who generally behave bad.. but as you can clearly see, there are still nice players in the game too.. Take that in consideration next time you feel bad about the game..
This is also proof that WAMMO's are not always dumb noobs..
I just wanted to show you guys what happened, cause it did stun me, and still does.. I blotted out her name, not to discredit her, but just to make sure people won't nag at her for free weapons..
P.S. I am not selling this sword, so offers are useless.. This sword has emotional value and that cannot be expressed in GW money

Its a good feeling being generous, I have given out a few random things out for free such as eternal shields and storm bows after UW runs a while back.

And the best thing about the whole story (well, kinda) is that you've shared it with everyone else in honor of that player's generosity .
There are incredibly generous people in GW. Months ago my necro was given the funds and materials to finish 15K bonelace (I only had the top because that's the piece I really liked and had combined it with other armor for a cool look). Even though I told the nice stranger this, she insisted - so I finished the set and gave away what I didn't use (gold and materials wise) in Ascalon to newbies.
One friend, an incredibly sweet person in real life as well, gives away nearly all her drops -- and she is really lucky with drops. I have to watch what I mention in passing about weapons because the next thing, she's kiting off to try and get me something! (I refuse to take advantage of her sweet nature!)
Yesterday my new elementalist needed a single vial of yellow dye for new armor, so I advertised in the trade channel. (I'd much rather pay a 'real' person than the trader if possible and I was only short by one.) Someone whispered right away, "Want a free one?" Next thing I know, he opens a trade window and pops in a yellow, purple, green and RED! His only comment to my stunned "WOW, thank you!" was "Merry Christmas".
Yep, these bright lights may be few and far between, but thank the gods they're ingame (and in real life)!

Grats... only time i got something worth alot, was when my old guildleader and very good Italian friend quit GW... and I still miss doing stuff together (he's trying to convince me to start playing NWN2 now though), but at least it made me able to buy Mesmer FoW... and I'll never get rid of any armor piece, I owe it all to him. (cfr. Emotional Value)

I don't blame you for NEVER selling that sword. Not only is it by far THE most beautiful sword I have EVER seen. Not only that but it's a gift. As a rule, you don't sell gifts. You treasure them and remember the person for their generosity. Just as you have.

Yeah, congratulations on getting a really nice sword.
Bet this will go down as one of your best guild wars days.
One of my best guild wars days was when a monk friend of mine suddenly gave me a mini kuunavang dragon. Stoked.
I'll never sell it because as you mentioned it has emotional value.

*sighs* I used to have a friend like that and then he turned out to be a real cad and rather than report him for harrassment I just let the friendship drop by the wayside... It still bugs me though, cause I had really valued our friendship and I could have let the incident go, but he wouldn't ;_;
However along the way I have met some incredibly nice people. At one time there was a married couple that would go to ascalon and give stuff out at least once a week, sometimes money, sometimes items, ya know the usual. One guy gave my brother a gold 15^50% Chaos Axe req. 9 and this was many months before Factions came out... A guildie gave me Drago's Flatbow for last Christmas - and a few of my guildies went in hunt of Rotwings Recurve for me just to show they cared <3
You are VERY VERY lucky! And I really wish that person well and hope that the lags stops for them so that they can come back and play. GW is a much better place for people like that ^_^

I give out items occasionally when I find myself in the lower level areas after a good days adventurin'. Most of the time they're white, blue or purple items that are max dmg, but not highly sought after. Even though my heroes are fitted out rather well, I'd rather not merch them since they're still useful. So, I combine them with whatever leftover mods I have (like elemental dmg strings and not-quite-perfect grips) and give them to new characters looking for equipment.
Just recently I gave a max dmg Elonian sword and shield set to a warrior in need after helping her through the first few missions in Ascalon. They were just blue items that didn't have the best looking skins, but she was happy to receive them. Especially after my brave level 20 ranger fought off all the big nasties that were keeping her for completing her goal.
I don't do it for those who want to amass great wealth, I just do it for those who want to play the game.

See, this is the reason I need to play more.
To get to the places where I can get good enough drops to take and give to people in need.
